"Every girl and woman in Zanzibar deserves the opportunity to play football."
— The founding belief of ZWFC
ZWFC was founded on a simple but powerful belief — every girl and woman in Zanzibar deserves the opportunity to play football.
For years, women and girls in Zanzibar had limited access to organised football. There were no dedicated clubs, no safe spaces to train, and no pathways to compete. Talented players had nowhere to go.
A group of passionate individuals decided that had to change. In May 2025, Zanzibar Women Football Club was born — not just as a football team, but as a movement. A community. A statement that women belong on the pitch.
Building a women's football club in Zanzibar is not without its challenges. We navigate cultural barriers, limited funding, lack of infrastructure, and the ongoing need to change perceptions about women in sport.
Every training session is a small victory. Every new player who joins is proof that the work matters. We face these challenges head-on — with determination, community support, and an unshakeable belief in what we are building.

Club Administrator
Itika is the founding administrator of ZWFC, responsible for the club's day-to-day operations, partnerships, and strategic direction. Her passion for women's empowerment through sport is the driving force behind everything ZWFC does.
We are just getting started. Our vision is a Zanzibar where every girl and woman has equal access to football, opportunity, and the confidence to pursue her dreams.
In the years ahead, we plan to expand our player base, launch a full mentorship programme, compete in regional leagues, build youth academies, and create a pathway from grassroots football to professional opportunity.
Every donation, every membership, every volunteer hour brings that future closer.
Compete in organised women's football leagues across East Africa
Launch a structured youth programme for girls aged 8–16
Connect players with professional mentors from sport and business
Reach every corner of Zanzibar with grassroots football programmes
Every player, volunteer, member, and donor is writing the next chapter of ZWFC.
